Pray pray pray

Isaiah 12:3-5 You will joyfully draw water from the springs of salvation, and on that day you will say: “Give thanks to Yahweh; proclaim His name! Celebrate His works among the peoples. Declare that His name is exalted. Sing to Yahweh, for He has done glorious things. Let this be known throughout the earth.

As Covid started to filter through the world and countries started to shut down, missionary life in PNG was still operating in normal mode. Isolation, unknowns, and lack of good communication are normal occurrences living overseas.  Our leaders were trying to form a plan for this building crisis but were having difficulty.  At times, things were changing hour by hour, and getting in front of this was impossible for leaders all over the world. The main problem for us missionaries was that countries started to close their boarders.  We were quickly finding ourselves stuck in PNG. After Jodi and I prayed, we felt that we were to stay and not seek the few last flights that could get all the way back to the US. Still the stuck feeling did / does not feel warm and fuzzy. This was the beginning of our isolation on our center and isolation from our home country.

We choose to pray deeper for several days. This is a short break down of how the Holy Spirit led me to pray:

1: Repent of my rebellious heart toward the things of God. I prayed specifically about looking at the world’s ideas for answers. Am I putting more faith in, hand washing, isolating, internet research, then into Jesus? I repented of self-reliance.

2: I prayed against fear. Fear that which the Bible commands us not to have. Fear has a way of drawing our focus and therefore we cannot focus on God and His power. I prayed the daily news would draw our eyes to our Heavenly Papa not to the unknown darkness encircling us.

3: As I started this last section I felt the Spirit pull on my prayer reins and lead in an unexpected direction. I prayed for God to be Victorious. That His Kingdom would triumph in the Earth and in people’s hearts. That Jesus would receive Glory, Honor and Power over this disease. Amen and Amen.

So, after those prayers, what am I praying these continuing days of world wide pandemic?

I am praying for our valley here in the highlands of Papua New Guinea. That my God in His power will wall in all the inhabitance of the Aiyura valley and protect us completely from Covid-19. Just like He did for Jerusalem against the Assyrian Army. The same army that consumed every city and country that was in its path. Just like this sickness is doing all over the world.

As we look to God and drink from His Salvation, know He will save us. We must proclaim His name, celebrate His works and declare that Jesus is exalted!!

In Christ, Jay P
