Life 4mins at a time

Almost every morning as I am making breakfast I need to filter water for the day. It takes gravity about 4 minutes to fill each two quart bottle. We drink rain water that we collect into tanks from our roof. As romantic as that sounds I am brought back to reality whenever I see a bird sitting on our roof. Use your imagination and you will see why we filter:)

As my mornings are broken into 4 min segments, I am amazed how little I get done on my breakfast in between. As I change the bottles I started contemplating… “What did I get done in those last four minutes and why does it not seem I am any closer to eating?” Jodi will tell you that when I make a meal it is nothing short of a large production. To me, everything I do to prepare for eating makes it possible to enjoy my meal in complete solace. In addition to getting my meal there maybe a few side tracks but they only take a few seconds. Things like, finding my cell phone, checking my messages, seeing what the weather is outside, finding just the right snack for work, etc… cannot possibly be the reason it takes me so long to get my food..

The truth is as the bottles fill it is not long before 20 – 30 minutes have past and I still am not ready to “enjoy” my meal. It should not take that much time to; heat water for tea, get some juice and pouring cereal or reheat pancakes. Are those little side track’s seconds adding up? I am keeping busy but I am not making headway.

This has got me thinking more about what I do with my time throughout the day. It may only take 4 minutes to fill our bottles but that is 4 minutes that I can never get back. Am I getting to the things God has for me or not? Psalms 39:4-5 “LORD, reveal to me the end of my life and the number of my days. Let me know how short-lived I am. You, indeed, have made my days short in length, and my life span as nothing in Your sight. Yes, every mortal man is only a vapor.”(HCSB)

I love that verse. Not exactly a “pick me up” kind of Scripture, but so important for our perspective on our days. Thank you for sharing the blog post also. Hope you all are well!
